Roy was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in 1993 and was given just two years to live.
After undergoing experimental surgery, with a very slim chance of survival, Roy against the odds began to slowly recover and took up painting as a way of dealing with the associated health issues post surgery.
Over the years Roy has raised money for various charities, has paintings in private collections all over the world, and has had a painting produced as a limited edition Christmas card for the Mayor and Mayoress of Solihull. He also has a painting of Killingbeck Hospital displayed in the Jubilee Wing of the Leeds General Infirmary.
